How Much Does It Cost to Hire a Graphic Designer for a Small Business?
Ask five people what a logo or a full identity system should cost and you'll get five different answers. That's because "graphic designer" covers a huge range, from a quick gig-site logo to a multi-week identity and packaging system built around how you actually sell.
The quick answer
There isn't one number that fits every project. What you pay depends less on the designer's hourly rate and more on the scope: how many deliverables, how many rounds of revision, and whether it's a single project or an ongoing relationship where the designer already knows your brand.
What actually changes the price
A few things move the number more than people expect.
Scope and deliverables. A logo alone costs a lot less than a full identity system: logo, color palette, typography, packaging and templates for social and print.
Who you're hiring. A marketplace gig, an independent freelancer and an agency all price differently, and that price usually reflects the process behind it, not just the output.
How revisions are structured. A defined number of revision rounds keeps a project moving. Open-ended "just keep tweaking it" arrangements tend to run longer and cost more, even at a lower hourly rate.
One-time vs. ongoing. A single project is priced differently than a retainer relationship where the designer is already familiar with your brand and can turn work around faster.
Why the cheapest quote isn't always the cheapest outcome
A rock-bottom price usually means a rock-bottom process: no real discovery conversation, no strategy behind the choices, a handful of file exports and no support once it's delivered. If you end up hiring someone else in six months to fix what didn't quite land, the cheap option ends up costing more than the mid-range one would have.
